About Edgecumbe Lodge Care Home
We are Edgecumbe Lodge Care Home, a residential care home in the Bristol area. We are home to older people, including many people living with dementia, and we also welcome people for respite stays when a family carer needs a break or when someone needs care for a short period. Our aim is a home that runs at a human pace. People get up when they wake rather than when a rota says so, eat food they actually like, and spend their days as they choose, whether that is in company or quietly in their own room. Rooms belong to the people living in them, and families are encouraged to bring in furniture and photographs so that a space feels familiar from the first night. Dementia care rests on patience and consistency. Calm surroundings, staff who know a person's history, and an unhurried approach do more good than any timetable, and when somebody is distressed our first question is what is behind it rather than how to stop it. We should be straightforward about our position. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement. We accepted the substance of the findings and we have been working through them with our staff, our residents and their families ever since, in the slow and detailed way that real improvement in a care home actually happens. If you are considering a home in this part of Bristol, come and visit and ask us what has changed.
