About Northway House
Northway House is a residential care home in Taunton, Somerset, providing a settled home for older people who need support with daily living. We also care for younger adults, support residents living with dementia, and offer respite stays for those who need care for a shorter period. We want this to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere people are placed. Residents choose when to get up, how to spend their time and what they eat. Meals are cooked on the premises and preferences are remembered. There is company and activity for those who want it and no pressure at all on anyone who prefers their own company. Dementia support rests on knowing people. We ask families to tell us about a person's life, their work, their music and their habits, because reassurance lands far better when it is familiar. Calm surroundings, staff who know the resident well and an unhurried pace do most of the work. We keep close contact with local GPs and community nurses so that changes in health are picked up early, and we keep families properly informed rather than ringing only when something has gone wrong. Relatives are welcome whenever suits them. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us good overall. If you are considering a move for yourself or a family member, please come and see us.
