About Elmsmead
Elmsmead is a residential care home in Taunton, Somerset, supporting adults with a learning disability, adults on the autistic spectrum and younger adults. We offer settled places and respite stays. This is where people live, and that principle shapes the way the house runs. People choose when to get up, what to eat, how to spend their time and who they see. Some of the people living here go out to work, college or activities, and some prefer a quieter and more predictable pattern. Neither is treated as the right answer. Our support is practical. It might mean help with personal care, cooking and shopping, managing money and appointments, using local transport, or keeping in touch with family and friends. Where somebody can do something for themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to step in, even when stepping in would be quicker. A great deal of our attention goes into communication. People tell us what they want in very different ways, and learning each person's way properly is what allows decisions to genuinely be theirs. Respite stays give families a proper break while offering the person staying with us somewhere calm and predictable to be. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You would be very welcome to visit.
