About The Laurels
The Laurels is a care home in Cheddar, Somerset. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. In a village, a care home is not separate from the place around it. Families call in without ceremony, people go out into the village, and a fair number of our residents knew one another long before they came to live here. We try not to waste that. Keeping somebody connected to their own community does more good than most of what we could organise indoors. Inside, the day belongs to the residents. People get up when they want, eat what they want and spend their time where they choose. Rooms belong to the people in them, and staff are there to make those choices workable and to notice quietly when somebody is not quite right. For people living with dementia, our starting point is who the person has been. A working life, a family, a routine held for decades usually explains more about how somebody is now than anything in a medical file. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are welcome to come and look round, with or without an appointment.
