About Fernery House
We are a residential home in Burnham on Sea supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. The house runs as a household rather than an institution. Everyone has their own room and their own things, and the week is worked out between the people who live here and the staff supporting them: what is cooked, when the shopping is done, who wants to go out and where to. Those are small matters that add up to whether somebody feels at home or merely accommodated. Support is built around what each person wants to be able to do, whether that is a job, a college course, a regular volunteering day, getting out regularly, keeping up with family, managing money with a hand from staff or learning to cook something new. Consistency counts for a great deal, particularly for autistic people, so we keep staffing as settled as we can and explain changes before they happen. Respite stays are available alongside longer places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We prefer to say so plainly rather than leave you to discover it. We are working through the matters the inspectors raised and are willing to go through the report with anyone considering the home. Please come and visit and meet the people who live here. That will tell you more than anything we can write.
