About Weir Road

We are Weir Road, a residential care home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. We support older people, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability, people with a visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. It is a mixed group, and what holds our approach together is that we start with the individual rather than with the category they might be placed in. This is a home, so people keep their own rooms, their own belongings and as much of their own routine as they want. We take time to learn how somebody communicates, what a good day looks like for them, what unsettles them and what they are working towards. Some people want a full and busy week with activities, work, college or time out in the town, while others need a quiet and predictable rhythm protected, and we adjust to the person rather than asking them to fit our rota. Help with personal care and mobility is given at the individual's pace and as discreetly as possible, leaving as much choice with them as we can. Where somebody has a sensory impairment we change how we communicate rather than expecting them to adapt to us. We also provide respite stays, which give family carers a planned break and the person staying a genuine visit, so we prepare for them properly. Family and friends are welcome here. If you are considering Weir Road, please come and see us on an ordinary day.
