Here at Barleyfields House, we are a residential care home based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism. We are part of the wider Walsingham Support family, an organisation with a long history of walking alongside people with learning disabilities to live meaningful, fulfilling lives on their own terms. Our home offers both permanent residential care and respite care, which means we support people in a range of circumstances. Some of the people we support live with us as their long term home, while others come to us for short breaks, giving them and their families or carers some breathing space. We take both equally seriously, because every stay matters to the person experiencing it. We know that moving into or visiting a care home can feel like a big step, and we want anyone coming through our door to feel genuinely welcome rather than simply processed. The people we support have varying needs and personalities, and we work hard to get to know each individual rather than applying a one size fits all approach. Routines, preferences and personal goals all matter to us, and we try to build daily life around the people who live here rather than the other way round. We were recently rated as requiring improvement by the Care Quality Commission, and we want to be straightforward about that. We have taken the feedback seriously and are actively working through the areas identified. Improvement is an ongoing process and we are committed to it, not just in response to inspection but because the people we support deserve the best we can offer.
