About The Old Vicarage
The Old Vicarage is a residential care home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, for adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people with physical disabilities. Most of the people who live here are younger adults. A home for younger adults has to be about building a life rather than winding one down. People here have decades ahead of them, so we talk about work and college, money, cooking, travel, relationships and independence, and we expect people to take on more over time rather than less. Support is agreed with each person and built around them. Some need help with personal care and health needs. Others mainly want somebody alongside them so that a demanding world becomes manageable. For autistic residents especially, predictability does most of the work. Routines that hold, clear information, honest notice before anything changes and attention to sensory demands prevent far more distress than any reaction afterwards. For residents with a physical disability, time is what matters most, and we build the day around that. Shrewsbury is on the doorstep and getting out into it is part of the ordinary week here. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us to arrange a visit.
