About Merrington Grange
Merrington Grange is a residential care home near Shrewsbury, and we support adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. Respite stays are available as well. We are a household rather than a facility. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and a real say over how the day goes. The staff team is kept deliberately consistent, because support from people who know you well is a wholly different thing from support from whoever happens to be on shift. Changes are explained in advance, the shape of the week holds, and we take sensory comfort seriously, since noise, light and busyness often decide whether a day goes smoothly. Support covers personal care, medication, meals, money and the practical business of running a home, and wherever we can we do things alongside people rather than for them. A task done slowly by the person themselves is a better outcome than the same task done quickly by us. For those with physical disabilities the emphasis is on equipment that fits properly, transfers handled safely and without embarrassment, and as much independence as somebody wants to keep. We are equally interested in what happens beyond the house: college, work or voluntary work, hobbies, friendships and family visits. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families, social workers and anyone considering Merrington Grange for somebody are welcome to visit and ask us anything.
