About Onny Cottage

Onny Cottage is a small residential care home near Ludlow for older people, including residents with a physical disability and people living with sight or hearing loss. Being small is the point. Staff know everybody who lives here properly, and residents know the staff, which makes the day feel like a household rather than a facility. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and everything else that has become hard to manage alone, and we do it at the pace of the person rather than the pace of a rota. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they sit, what they eat and whether they want company. Where somebody has a physical disability the right equipment is in place and our staff are trained to help with moving safely and comfortably, without fuss. For residents with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate, say who we are as we come into a room and take care not to move things without mentioning it. Mealtimes matter here. We cook food people recognise, ask what they actually fancy and never hurry anybody through a plate. Respite stays are available, whether to give a family carer a break or to help somebody regain strength after illness. If you would like to see the house, please ring and arrange a time.
