About Redfern
Redfern is a residential care home in Stockton On Tees supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. It is a small and settled home, and we run it on the understanding that it belongs to the people who live in it. That means the ordinary decisions sit with them. What goes on the shopping list. How a bedroom looks. Whether Saturday involves going out or staying in. Whether a visitor is welcome today. These are not small matters when so much of a person's life has been decided by other people, and we take them seriously. Support is planned individually and changes as people do. Some of the people here want to build skills and take on more for themselves, and our job is to step back at the right speed and be there if something does not go to plan. Others want a settled and predictable life with reliable support around it, which is an equally good outcome. For autistic people in particular we pay close attention to environment. Noise, lighting, changes of staff and unexpected visitors are not minor details, and planning for them properly is a large part of doing this work well. We also offer respite stays. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.
