About Sheringham House
We are a residential care home in Ilford supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including younger adults moving towards a more independent life. The people who live here have their own routines, friendships, interests and plans, and our job is to support those rather than to organise everyone around a single way of doing things. Some of the people we support go out to college, work or day activities. Others prefer a quieter life at home with familiar company. Both are entirely reasonable ways to live, and we plan support accordingly. Our team helps with personal care, medicines, cooking, money, appointments and getting out into the local area. Where someone wants to learn a new skill, whether that is using public transport, managing their own shopping or cooking a meal from start to finish, we work at their pace and expect setbacks along the way. We take time to learn how each person communicates and what helps when they are anxious or overwhelmed, and we write that down so nobody has to guess. We also offer respite stays, which give families a break and give the person staying a change of scene with people who understand their needs. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families, social workers and anyone considering a placement are welcome to visit, ask hard questions and meet the team.
