About Braemar Care Home
Braemar Care Home is a residential care home in Southsea, Portsmouth. We support older people and younger adults, and a large part of our work is with people living with dementia. Being near the sea is not incidental. A short outing, a window that looks onto life going on outside, fresh air that actually smells of somewhere, all of these matter more than they are usually credited for, particularly to people whose world has narrowed. Inside, we try to run a house rather than an institution. That means the day flexes around the people in it. Getting up when you want to, eating what you actually like, having somewhere quiet to go when the lounge is too much, and being helped in a way that leaves your dignity intact. For people living with dementia it means staff who know each person's history well enough to understand what a particular anxiety is really about, and who have learned which approaches settle a difficult moment. We offer respite stays as well as permanent places, whether for a short period of care or to give a family carer a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Visitors are welcome, and we would rather you came and saw for yourself.
