About OSJCT Stirlings
We are OSJCT Stirlings, a residential care home in Wantage, Oxfordshire. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays. Residential care means helping with the parts of daily life that have become hard work and leaving everything else in the hands of the person themselves. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, getting about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth getting up for. Anything beyond our registration we arrange with district nurses and GPs rather than trying to cover it ourselves. Dementia shapes a good deal of our day. We have learned that correcting somebody's version of events achieves nothing, and that knowing who a person has been tells us far more than any list of symptoms. A resident who spent decades in a particular trade or raising a family nearby still carries that, and a conversation that connects with it can turn an afternoon around. Respite guests get the same assessment and the same welcome as anyone living here permanently, whether they are recovering after illness or giving a family carer a rest. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
