About South Lodge
South Lodge is a residential care home in Retford, Nottinghamshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Most of the people living here are younger adults, and we treat the place as their home rather than as a service they have been placed into. That shapes everything. People arrange their own rooms as they like. People take part in shopping, cooking and the running of the house to whatever extent suits them. People go out to work, to college, to clubs and to see family, and our job is to make those things possible rather than to fill a timetable on somebody else's behalf. Support is worked out individually and agreed with the person. Some people here need a great deal of help and some need very little. Communication gets particular attention, and we use whatever suits the person, whether that is speech, signing, symbols, objects of reference or simply knowing somebody well enough to understand what they are telling you. Without that, choice is not really choice. Short respite stays are available. They give family carers a proper break and let somebody spend time here before any longer decision is taken. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us if you would like to visit.
