About Pines
Pines is a residential care home in Mansfield Woodhouse in Nottinghamshire. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and younger adults, and we offer respite stays for people who usually live elsewhere. We run this as a home that people live in rather than a service they receive. Rooms belong to the people in them and get arranged accordingly. The weekly shop is decided by the people who will eat it. Weekend plans are made by whoever is going. We ask rather than assume, and being told no is a perfectly good answer. A great deal of what we do builds skills rather than doing things for people. Cooking, handling money, travelling into town, making an appointment, keeping in touch with family. Progress can be slow and it can go backwards, and our part is to keep the opportunity open without pressure and to make something of it when it works. Understanding how each person communicates matters more than almost anything else here, particularly where speech is not the main route. We learn each person's way, write it down so that new staff respond identically, and keep checking we have understood rather than assuming. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection.
