About Crows Nest
Crows Nest is a residential care home in Newbiggin by the Sea supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We are a household rather than an institution, and the people who live here have a real say in how their own home is run. Support is planned around the individual. Some of the people here need help with most parts of the day; others need very little practical help but rely on us for routine, encouragement and staff who understand how they communicate and what they find overwhelming. We take our time at the start, and we ask the people who know somebody best rather than relying on a file. Everyday life covers the ordinary things: cooking, shopping, laundry, keeping your own room how you like it, deciding what to do at the weekend and getting out locally, including down to the sea. We support people to do as much for themselves as they can and want to, which sometimes means standing back and letting a task take longer. Our staff are trained for the individuals they support, including communication and positive ways of responding when somebody is distressed, and we keep the team consistent because trust builds over months. Respite stays are available and give family carers a proper break. Please contact us if you would like to look round.
