About Oaklands
Oaklands is a residential care home in Northallerton providing a home for older people, for younger adults, and for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Having that mix living together works better than people sometimes expect, and it keeps the place from feeling like a waiting room. Support is built around the individual rather than around a category. Someone may need help with almost every part of the day and someone else very little, and both live here on the same terms. We ask each person what a good day looks like for them, write it down in a way that makes sense to them, and change it when they tell us to. People here are involved in the running of the house as far as they want to be, from choosing meals to helping with the shopping, and we support people to get out to work, college, clubs and family. Communication gets close attention, using speech, signing, symbols or simply the understanding that comes from knowing somebody well. Short respite stays are available. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and you are welcome to visit.
