About Irchester 168
Irchester 168 is a residential care home in Wellingborough supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults moving into their first home away from family. We are a house with a small number of people living in it, and that shapes everything. People have their own space and their own routines, and a genuine say in how the place is run, from the shopping list to what happens at weekends. What we are trying to achieve is not a smoothly run home. It is that the people living here get on with the things they actually want to do, whether that is a job, college, seeing friends, managing their own money or going out without somebody alongside them. We take real time to learn how each person communicates, particularly when they are anxious and words are harder, and what their sensory needs are, and we write support plans with them in language they can use. Respite stays are available and we arrange visits beforehand so that arriving somewhere is familiar rather than unsettling. Families and social workers stay closely involved. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are pleased about that, though the better measure is what the people living here would say about an ordinary week.
