About Avens
We are Avens, a residential care home in Kettering, North Northamptonshire, supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability and younger adults. This is where people live, so the atmosphere we aim for is that of a house rather than an institution, and we keep asking ourselves whether the day belongs to the people who live here or to the rota. Support is shaped around the individual. We take time to understand how somebody communicates, what helps them feel settled, what they find difficult and what they are working towards. Some people want a full week with activities, college, work, volunteering or trips out, while others need a quiet and predictable rhythm protected. Both are equally valid. Help with personal care and mobility is given at the person's pace and with as much choice left in their hands as possible. Everyone keeps their own room and their own belongings, and family and friends are welcome. We also offer respite stays, which give family carers a planned break and give the person staying a proper visit rather than an emergency placement, so we prepare carefully and make sure everybody knows what to expect. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us good overall, which we take as a standard to keep meeting rather than something to display. If you are considering Avens for yourself or a relative, please come and see us, meet the team and ask us whatever you need to ask.
