About The Gables

The Gables is a residential care home in Scunthorpe. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people with mental health needs, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays for people who need residential support for a short period. The house belongs to the people living in it. Everyone has a support plan written with them, in a form they can use, covering how they like to be supported, what they enjoy, what they find hard and what they want to be doing with their time. Some people here want a clear structure to the week and say so when it slips. Others would rather please themselves. Both are supported properly. People go out into Scunthorpe, keep up college, work, clubs and family contact, and we treat that as the point of the place rather than as something to be fitted in when staffing allows. Communication gets careful attention. Where somebody does not use speech, we learn how they do tell us things and make sure the whole team knows. When someone becomes distressed we look for the cause rather than the quickest way to stop it, and any restriction on a person's freedom is agreed formally, recorded and reviewed with a view to reducing it. The Care Quality Commission rated us good overall at our most recent inspection. Families, advocates and professionals are welcome to come and see the house.
