About Council Home First Residential

We provide short stay residential care in Scunthorpe for older people, including those living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. Most people come to us at a point of change rather than to settle permanently: after a spell in hospital, after a fall, or when managing at home has become difficult and nobody is yet sure what is needed next. Our job is to give somebody a safe and comfortable place while that is worked out, and wherever possible to help them get back to doing things for themselves. That means working on the practical matters that decide whether home is possible: getting up and moving about safely, washing and dressing, preparing food and drink, managing medication and regaining confidence. Progress is often slow and rarely in a straight line, and the gains that count are frequently small ones. We work alongside therapists, nurses and social work colleagues, and where it becomes clear that a longer term arrangement is what somebody needs, we say so plainly rather than let a decision drift. People here keep their own routines as far as we can manage, and families are welcome whenever they wish to come. Where somebody is living with dementia, knowing their habits and history matters more than any procedure. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please get in touch if you would like to know more.
