About Options Applegate House

Options Applegate House is a residential care home in Barton upon Humber supporting younger adults, including people who have a learning disability and people who are autistic. The people who live here have their own lives to get on with, and our job is to make that possible rather than to organise it for them. Support might mean help with personal care and medication, practical assistance with cooking, shopping, laundry and money, or simply having dependable people nearby while somebody goes to college, works, volunteers or sees friends. We agree what is wanted with each person and leave the rest well alone. For the autistic people we support, predictability and clear communication do most of the work. We give notice before anything changes, we pay attention to noise, light and how busy shared areas become, and we learn how each person prefers to be given information. Where somebody is distressed, we treat that as information about something that needs to change rather than as behaviour to be managed. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places, which can give families a planned break and let a person get to know us first. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. Please contact us if you would like to visit and see the house for yourself.
