About Tamar House

Tamar House is a residential care home in Cromer. We support older people, including those living with dementia and those living with mental ill health, as well as some younger adults, and we offer respite stays. The home runs around the people in it. Residents decide when to get up, what they want to eat and how to spend the day, and we would rather someone read the paper all morning than joined in with something to be polite. Rooms are personalised from the start, and we encourage people to bring their own furniture and pictures because familiar surroundings make settling much easier. Supporting people who live with dementia alongside long standing mental ill health is a real part of our work, and it is an area where people sometimes get moved from place to place. We would rather be somewhere that holds. Routines stay steady, staffing is kept as consistent as the rota allows, and when a person is distressed we look for the cause instead of simply calming the moment. Having younger adults living here too means we are careful that their days do not default into a pattern designed around much older residents. Being on the north Norfolk coast, a change of scene is easy to come by, and trips out are a normal part of the week. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit Tamar House and ask us anything you like.
