Abbeygate Rest Home is a residential care home in Crowland. The people who live with us are older adults who reached the point where managing at home had become hard work, unsafe or simply too solitary. Some move in permanently, and some come for respite, whether that is a planned break for a family carer, a few weeks of recovery after illness, or a trial stay for somebody still weighing things up. What we offer is ordinary life with the difficult parts taken care of. Help with washing, dressing and medication given quietly and at the person's own pace. Meals cooked in our own kitchen and eaten without hurry. Company in the sitting room for anyone who wants it, and no expectation at all for the person who would rather have the paper, the radio and their own chair. We think a small home works best when it holds on to who somebody was before they arrived. So we ask about the working life, the villages and towns people came from, the music they still like and the routines they have no intention of giving up, and we shape the day around those things rather than around ours. Relatives are welcome whenever it suits them, and we would much rather hear a small worry the day it occurs than a large one at a review. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see us on an ordinary weekday and ask us anything you like.
