About Woodheyes

Woodheyes is a residential care home in Leicester. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia and people living with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays for families needing a planned break. Most of what makes a care home good happens quietly and every day. Food people actually want to eat. Being helped to the bathroom without waiting. Laundry that comes back. Knowing the name of whoever is on this evening. Somebody noticing that you have been quieter than usual for a few days. Where a resident communicates differently, whether because of a sensory impairment or for any other reason, we deal with that properly rather than half doing it, since a great deal else depends on getting it right. A member of staff who comes in and simply starts talking has already made the encounter harder than it needed to be. For residents living with dementia we protect the routine and keep surroundings familiar, and we ask families for the working life, the places and the names, because those are what still connect when much else has slipped. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Families are welcome at any hour, including the awkward ones.
