About Acacia Court
Acacia Court is a residential care home in Pudsey, supporting older people and younger adults from across Leeds, including many people living with dementia. Most people arrive here after a difficult stretch rather than at a moment of their own choosing, so we treat the first few weeks as the part that matters most. We learn how somebody likes their day arranged before we start arranging anything, and we expect that a person may be grieving for their own house while settling into a room here. Once settled, what we offer is deliberately unremarkable. Food cooked in our kitchen that people look forward to. Personal care given without fuss and in private. Medication managed properly. Warm rooms that look like somebody's own. Staff awake at night. A household with enough rhythm to give the day a shape, and nobody obliged to take part in anything at all. Dementia care is a large part of our work and we have settled views about it. Correcting somebody about the year, or about where a long dead spouse has got to, helps nobody. Familiar faces, an unhurried house and enough knowledge of a person's life to find the thread of a conversation help a great deal. Relatives hold most of that knowledge and we ask for it early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as a floor rather than an achievement. Visit at a busy time and ask the residents what they think.
