About Ashton Manor Care Home
Ashton Manor is a residential care home in Lancaster. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We support younger adults too, and we offer respite stays. Most of what makes a care home good is unglamorous and daily. Food people want to eat. Being helped to the bathroom without waiting. Laundry that comes back. Knowing who is on this evening. Somebody noticing that you have been quieter than usual for a few days. We put our effort there rather than into anything that reads well at a distance. For residents living with dementia we protect the routine and keep the surroundings familiar, and we ask families for the working life, the places, the music and the names. Those are what still connect when a great deal else has gone, and they cannot be learned from a form. For residents with physical disabilities we plan the practical side around what somebody can still do themselves rather than what is fastest for us, because independence given up for convenience is rarely regained. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Relatives are welcome unannounced, and that is the visit that actually tells you something.
