About Trabel
Trabel is a residential care home in Huddersfield supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We provide permanent places and planned respite stays. We are a house where people live and we work hard to keep it feeling that way. Residents have their own rooms, a genuine say in how the household runs and support that has been planned with them rather than written about them. Our staff are here to help people do things, not to do things to them, and we look for ways to build confidence and skills rather than quietly taking tasks over. Getting the environment right is central to our work. Noise, lighting, predictability and knowing what is coming next often make the difference between someone who is settled and someone who is permanently on edge. We shape the house around the people living in it rather than expecting them to fit around us. Communication works the same way. Where a person signs, uses symbols or an app, or communicates through behaviour we have learned to read, the responsibility for understanding is ours. Life beyond the front door matters too. College, work, volunteering, friendships and family contact are all part of what we support, because a placement should never become someone's entire world. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and visit, meet the people who live here and ask us direct questions.
