About Oxley Woodhouse
We are Oxley Woodhouse, a residential care home in Huddersfield, Kirklees, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. This is somebody's home first and a care setting second, and we try hard to keep it that way. People here have their own rooms, their own belongings and a genuine say in how the day goes, from what is cooked to what happens at the weekend. Our support is built around the individual. Some people want a full and busy week, with activities, work, college, volunteering or trips out into the surrounding area. Others prefer a quieter and more predictable rhythm and need that predictability protected. Both are fine. We take time to understand how a person communicates, what helps them feel calm and what they are working towards, and we adjust our support as those things change rather than assuming this year looks like last year. We also provide respite stays. These give families a planned break and give the person staying a proper visit rather than an emergency placement, so we prepare carefully and make sure everybody knows what to expect. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us good overall, which we take as a standard to keep meeting rather than something to put on display. Family and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come, and we would encourage anyone considering Oxley Woodhouse to visit and see how the house feels on an ordinary day.
