About Greenacres
Greenacres is a residential care home in Holmfirth, supporting older people from across Kirklees, including many people living with dementia. Our ambition here is unfashionably plain: we want the ordinary days to be good ones. Food cooked in our own kitchen that people look forward to. Personal care given calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Warm rooms that look like they belong to the person in them. Somebody awake at night. Enough going on in the house that there is a reason to come downstairs, and no pressure at all on anybody who would rather not. People keep their own habits wherever we can arrange it. A home that insists everybody rises at the same hour and bathes to a schedule has stopped being a home and become a timetable with beds in it. Dementia care is most of what we do and we have clear views about it. Correcting somebody about the year, or about where a long dead spouse has got to, helps nobody at all. Familiar staff, a calm and unhurried house, and knowing enough of a person's life to find the thread of a conversation help enormously. Relatives are our best source of that history, and we ask for it early rather than as a form filling exercise. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather keep improving than defend a grade. Come and see us at a busy time and ask the residents what they think.

Yes. Greenacres is registered for dementia care, so someone whose needs increase can usually stay rather than move.
Is there a nurse on site if health needs change?
No. Greenacres is a residential care home without on-site nursing. District nurses and GPs visit, but someone who needs daily nursing may have to move to a nursing home.
Can they try a short stay before deciding?
Ask the home. The home has not told us whether it offers short stays. Ask when you call; many homes can arrange a trial period.
Will they support end of life care, so there is no move at the hardest time?
Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.

Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.

Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?

No. Greenacres is registered for older people. Younger adults are not listed.

More about the care at Greenacres
Dementia Care at Greenacres
Huddersfield Royal Infirmary is 4.4 miles away in a straight line. Dementia care is most of what Greenacres does, by its own account, and it holds clear views about it. Correcting somebody about the year, or about where a long dead spouse has got to, helps nobody at all, it says. Familiar staff, a calm and unhurried house, and knowing enough of a person's life to find the thread of a conversation are offered instead. Relatives are described as its best source of that history, asked for early rather than as a form filling exercise. Ask how distress is handled, whether any area is secured, and what happens as dementia advances.
Residential Care at Greenacres
Sixty four places make Greenacres larger than 78 of the 86 homes in Kirklees, where the average is 37. Residential care means everyday living support without nursing on site, so meals, personal care, medication and company come from care staff. The GP and community nursing team handle clinical needs, which separates it from a nursing home. A good rating from November 2019 is on file, but the current registration began on 11 May 2026, so it may belong to a previous provider. Fees across Yorkshire and Humberside commonly run from £800 to £1050 a week, while Kirklees usually pays about £650 to £800. Ask what the 2019 report found and who would cover any shortfall on a funded placement.
