About Lavenders

Lavenders is a residential care home in West Malling, Kent. We are home to older people, both for the long term and for shorter respite stays when a family carer needs a rest. What matters here is straightforward: eat well, be warm, be helped quickly, and keep control of your own day. We would rather be judged on those. Our staff know people's working lives, their families and their peculiarities, and that knowledge is why they notice quickly when somebody is not right. Respite guests are properly welcomed rather than merely accommodated. We ask beforehand how the person likes things done, because a short stay gives us no time to learn it gradually. People here are addressed as they wish to be addressed. First names are not automatic, and nobody is called love or dear unless they like it. We keep an eye on weight, appetite and mood, because those are usually the first signs that something has changed for somebody. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable hour, and grandchildren and dogs are part of that. A home that is awkward about visitors gradually becomes isolating. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Families are welcome to arrive unannounced.
