About Rhyme House
Rhyme House in Sittingbourne is a residential home supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities and people with sensory loss. Most of the people here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. Because people tend to live here for years, we run the house as their household rather than as a setting they have been placed in. The people who live here decide how their rooms look, have a real say in what is bought and cooked, and shape the week around what they want to do. Help with personal care, mobility, medication and health appointments is given exactly as each person has agreed and written down in enough detail that a colleague new to a shift gets it right without being told. Where somebody has a physical disability we think hard about equipment, layout and timing, and we assist at the point of need rather than taking over the whole task. Communication takes real effort and deserves it. Some people here use speech, others use signs, symbols, objects or behaviour we have to learn to read, and where there is sensory loss as well we think carefully about how information reaches somebody. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
