About Maple House
Maple House is a residential care home in Folkestone, Kent. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays for people who need somewhere to be for a short period. Our starting point is that this is somebody's home, not a placement. The people who live here choose how their day runs, keep their own things, follow their own interests and are supported to do as much for themselves as they want to. Support is planned with each person, in a way they can understand and take part in, and it is reviewed properly rather than annually out of habit. A great deal of what we do is about the ordinary business of a life: cooking, shopping, managing money, getting out to the places people want to go, keeping in touch with family and friends, and having something to look forward to during the week. Where someone finds change or noise difficult, we plan around that rather than expecting them to adapt, and we keep staffing as consistent as we can so that people are supported by faces they know. Respite guests are welcomed in the same way as everyone else here, with time taken beforehand to understand how they like things done, so that a short stay feels manageable rather than unsettling.
