About Star Road Respite Service
Star Road in Isleworth is a short break home for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, providing planned stays for people who live the rest of the time with their families or in their own homes. Short breaks have to work for two sets of people at once. For the person staying, it should feel like a change of scene they look forward to rather than an upheaval, so we get to know somebody properly before their first visit, keep the same room for them where we can, and keep their routines, food preferences and ways of doing things exactly as they are at home. For the family or carer, a break is only a break if they are not worrying the whole time, so we are specific with them beforehand about how we will handle the things that matter, and we ring if anything changes. Help with personal care, medication, health needs and getting about is given the way the person is used to, written down in detail. Where somebody communicates without speech, we learn how, and we check what we think we understand rather than assuming. Stays here are meant to contain something worth having, so we ask people what they would like to do and plan around that. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
