About Cedar Lodge

Cedar Lodge is a residential care home in Bromyard, Herefordshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Most of the people who live here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. We think of this as somebody's home first, and that governs the ordinary decisions. People choose how their room looks, what goes on the shopping list, when they get up and what happens at the weekend. Where somebody wants to cook, we cook alongside them rather than doing it for them. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a club, that is the point of the support rather than an extra bolted onto it. Being in a small market town has real advantages for this kind of work. People are known locally, they can get to the shops and the pub and the library on their own terms, and the place is small enough to become familiar. That sort of ordinary belonging is harder to arrange than it sounds and it is worth protecting. Predictability is something we are careful about. For many of the people here, knowing what is happening and who will be there is the difference between a settled day and a hard one, so we plan ahead and explain changes early. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what would make this a better place to live, and we take those answers seriously.
