About Stepping Stones
Stepping Stones is a residential care home in Newnham, Gloucestershire. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, those with sight or hearing loss, younger adults and older people, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. This is a house where people live their own lives. People choose how their rooms look, take part in shopping, cooking and keeping the place going as much as they want to and are able to, and get out to what they enjoy in the Forest of Dean and beyond. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a regular club, that belongs in the support plan rather than at its edges. The work turns on detail and consistency. Knowing what a crowded room or an unannounced change does to a particular person. Giving proper warning. Communicating in whatever way genuinely reaches somebody, whether that is speech, symbols, writing or simply unhurried time. We should be open about our regulator. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission found that we require improvement. We have an action plan covering the points raised and we are working through it with the whole staff team. We are happy to talk any family or referrer through what was found, what has changed and what remains in hand. Visitors are welcome to come and see the house for themselves.
