About Riverside Place
Riverside Place is a residential care home in Gateshead. We are home to older people and to younger adults, and we support people managing mental health conditions. We also offer respite stays, whether as a planned break for a family carer or a steadying period for somebody who needs one. Having a range of ages and needs in one house means we plan for people individually rather than running a single routine and hoping it fits. What a resident in their forties wants from a Wednesday is rarely what somebody forty years older wants, and treating those as the same thing serves neither. Much of our work with people managing mental ill health is about helping a routine hold: getting up, eating properly, taking medication, having something in the day worth turning up for. A settled household where people know you well is what makes those things sustainable, and we try to be steady rather than to push. We take the ordinary business of a home seriously. Food, warmth, privacy, being spoken to as an adult, having a say in what happens. Where somebody can do a thing themselves we support them to keep doing it. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall, and we would rather hear about something small going wrong now than read about it later.
