About New Directions - Bishops Lodge
Bishops Lodge is a residential care home in Hastings. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, younger adults and people managing an eating disorder, and we offer respite stays. This is a house run with the people who live in it rather than around them. Residents choose how their rooms look, how they spend their time and what part they play in the household, and support is built around what somebody wants from their life rather than around a timetable that suits the rota. Food and mealtimes can be complicated ground for some of the people we support, and we try to handle that with care rather than with rules. We work alongside the relevant clinical teams, we keep our approach consistent between staff, and we take our lead from the person's own plan rather than improvising. Nobody here is watched or managed at the table in a way that makes eating harder than it already is. For autistic residents we keep routines stable and give notice of change well in advance, because unexpected change is usually the hardest part. Communication takes different forms here and we learn each person's, whether speech, signing, pictures or the particular way somebody shows they have had enough. Respite guests are welcome to visit beforehand so the house is familiar when they arrive. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to look round.
