About St Anne's Residential Care Home
St Anne's Residential Care Home in Eastbourne supports adults, including younger adults, who have a learning disability, who are autistic, or who live with mental health conditions. We provide a settled home and the kind of steady, practical support that lets people get on with their own lives. We start from the view that the people who live here are adults with their own preferences, routines and ambitions. So residents have a real say in how the home is run, what we eat, how their support is provided and what they do with their time. Where someone wants to build independence, whether that is cooking, managing money, using public transport or looking after their own space, we support the practice rather than doing it for them. Consistency is important to us. Familiar staff who understand how a person communicates, what unsettles them and what helps them recover are worth far more than any policy document. We plan support with each individual, and with family or an advocate where the person wants that involvement. We encourage people to keep up with friends, family, work, college and the things they enjoy in and around Eastbourne, because a life is made up of more than the house you sleep in. We also offer respite stays. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

What the inspectors found
A plain English summary of the Care Quality Commission inspection behind the current rating of St Anne's Residential Care Home. Report published 11 July 2019.
- 2 May 2019
- 9 places, 9 people were using the service at the time
Safe
People told inspectors they felt safe, and all people were comfortable with staff. Medicines were given safely. Management were already aware of ways to improve how medicines are managed so that it reflected current best practice, and most risks had been identified with ways to reduce them.
Effective
Staff had received training that the provider considered mandatory, and there were plans to develop more senior staff in specific areas. There were links with other health and social care professionals, but some information sharing was not always timely. When a person's ability to make a decision changed, records did not always reflect what staff knew and did.
Caring
Inspectors found staff were kind and knew the people living at the home very well. Staff respected privacy and dignity throughout the inspection. People were involved in making choices about their day to day care, and staff respected these choices.
Responsive
People had care plans that were personalised and gave staff information about their needs and wishes. During the inspection, people were able to take part in a range of activities because of the staffing levels. Links with the community had a positive impact for people.
Well-led
The provider and management carried out a range of audits to identify concerns. When issues were found, actions were being taken to put them right. The registered manager knew their duty to tell CQC about certain events, and records and processes for managing behaviours that could challenge were still being developed.
What people told the inspectors
People told inspectors they were happy living at the home and felt safe. People and staff felt there were enough staff.
