About & District Mencap - Arundel Road
Arundel Road is a residential care home in Eastbourne, supporting adults who have a learning disability or who are autistic, and younger adults, in an ordinary house rather than an institutional setting. We start by getting to know each person properly. That means learning how somebody communicates, what a good day looks like for them, what they find difficult and what they would like to be able to do for themselves. Support plans are written with the person, and with family or an advocate where that is wanted, and they change as people change rather than sitting in a file gathering dust. Independence runs through everything here. If somebody can do a thing themselves, or could learn to with patient backing, our job is to make that possible rather than to step in and take over. That might be cooking, managing money, using local transport, or getting out to something in Eastbourne that a person genuinely enjoys. Being part of the town matters, and we would rather people were out in it than sitting in a lounge. We also offer respite stays, giving family carers a planned break while their relative stays somewhere welcoming and well staffed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking at options for yourself or someone you care about, you would be welcome to visit. Please get in touch and we will arrange a time.
