About Magnolia House

Magnolia House is a residential care home in Cottingham, caring for older people and younger adults, including many residents living with dementia. We are a home where staff and residents know one another properly, and most of what we do rests on that familiarity. The day is not run to a strict timetable. People get up when they are ready, eat well and spend their time as they wish, in company or quietly in their own room. Support with washing and dressing is given unhurriedly, because dignity is mostly about pace and manner. Dementia care asks for patience rather than correction. When a resident is anxious, or looking for a person or place from an earlier part of their life, we respond to the feeling rather than arguing with the facts, and we work out what will genuinely settle them. Knowing a person's history helps enormously, so we gather it early from the people who know them best. Families are part of daily life here. Come when it suits you, share a meal, join in, and tell us honestly when something is not right. We also offer respite stays for shorter periods. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and you are very welcome to look round.
