About Garden House
We are Garden House, a residential care home in Sherborne, Dorset. We are home to older people, and we also welcome people for respite stays when a family carer needs a break or when someone needs care for a short period. We aim for a home that feels lived in rather than run. People get up when they wake, eat food they actually like, sit where they choose and spend their days as they wish. Rooms belong to the people living in them, and we encourage families to bring in furniture, photographs and the small familiar things that make a space somebody's own from the first night. Sherborne is a good town in which to grow older and we make use of it. People here keep up with the shops, the church, their clubs and their friends, and go out with family whenever they wish. Moving into a care home should not mean disappearing from the place you have lived. Families are welcome throughout the day. We would far rather relatives dropped in casually, joined a meal and told us early when they think something is wrong than felt they were visiting an institution. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep checking our own practice against it rather than assuming it holds by itself. If you are considering a home in the Sherborne area, please come and see us on an ordinary day.
