About Bourne Bridge House
Bourne Bridge House is a residential care home in South Molton in Devon, and we support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We also take respite bookings for people whose usual home is elsewhere. We keep coming back to one idea here, which is that this is a house people live in rather than a service they receive. Rooms are theirs to arrange. The weekly shop is decided by the people who will eat it. If somebody wants the television off and the window open, that is not a negotiation with staff. We ask, we listen, and we accept being turned down. Where sight or hearing loss is part of the picture, the difference is made by small habits rather than grand gestures. Saying who you are as you come in. Leaving furniture exactly where it lives. Checking that glasses are clean and hearing aids actually working. We build those into the ordinary day rather than treating them as additional care. Understanding how each person tells us things is the other half of our job, especially where speech is not the main route. We learn each person's way, record it, and make sure the whole team reads it the same, because a predictable place is a calm one. South Molton is a friendly town and we use it, for shopping, for groups, for getting out when the weather allows. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our last inspection, and we keep asking what needs improving.
