About Pippin House
Pippin House is a residential care home in Newton Abbot, Devon, supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, adults with mental health needs, adults with a physical disability, people with sight or hearing loss, older people and younger adults. The people who live here have very different lives, so we do not run the house to one timetable. We support people to get up when they choose, eat what they like, keep up with family and friends, get out to college, work, appointments and the things they enjoy, and take the everyday risks that any adult is entitled to take. Help with personal care, medication and health needs is part of what we do, but the point of the place is that it is home. Communication comes first here. We learn how each person shows a preference, a worry or a refusal, whether in words, signs, pictures or behaviour, and we act on what they tell us rather than on what is convenient. Where someone lives with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we work so they are not left out of decisions about their own life. Respite stays are available too, giving families a break and giving the person staying a change of scene and a little more independence. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The measure we care about more is whether people here are living the life they want, which we review with them regularly.
