About Meadowside Residential Home

Meadowside Residential Home is in Newton Abbot in Devon. We support adults with a learning disability or autism, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. This is a home rather than a placement, and we try to make that true in practice and not just in words. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and they have a genuine say in how the house runs, from the weekly shop to what happens at the weekend. Where a decision is difficult, our job is to support the person to make it rather than to make it on their behalf. We support people to do as much for themselves as they want to. That might mean cooking together rather than cooking for somebody, working out a bus route, keeping a job or a college course going, managing money, or having the right kind of help with appointments and paperwork. Where somebody communicates without speech, we take the time to learn how they do communicate, and we record it so that every member of staff responds in the same way. Being in Devon we make a point of getting out. Life should not shrink to the walls of the house, so trips out, clubs, family visits and local connections are part of the ordinary week rather than special occasions. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please visit as often as you need before making any decision.
