About Kenwith Castle Country House Care
Kenwith Castle is a residential care home near Bideford in Devon. We are home to older people, both for the long term and for shorter respite stays when a family carer needs a rest. The setting is a genuine part of what we offer. Grounds to walk in, somewhere to sit outside when the weather allows, and views that are worth looking at are not luxuries for somebody who spends most of their day within a few rooms. We make real use of them rather than treating them as something for the brochure. Inside, our priorities are plain. Good food, warm rooms, laundry that comes back, help when it is wanted and privacy when it is not. Residents get up and go to bed when it suits them rather than when a rota finds it convenient. We take trouble over knowing people: their working life, their family, which chair is theirs, how they take their tea. Those details are how somebody stays a person here rather than becoming a resident. Respite guests are properly welcomed. We ask in advance how the person likes things done, because a short stay gives us no time to learn it gradually. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather be judged on the small daily things than on anything we could claim in a paragraph.
