About Highfields

Highfields is a residential care home in Swadlincote supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults working towards greater independence. We run this as somebody's home and not as a unit. Everyone has their own room and their own things, and the rhythm of the day belongs to the people living here. Support is agreed with the person and those who know them well, and it can mean help with every part of personal care or simply prompting and encouragement while somebody does things themselves. We put real effort into communication. Learning how each person expresses themselves, what settles them, what they find hard and what a change in behaviour is telling us is the heart of this work, and what we learn is recorded so that the whole team is consistent. People are supported to have a life beyond the front door, keeping up interests and activities, getting out locally, attending appointments and staying in contact with family and friends. Where somebody wants to build the skills for more independent living, we support that at their pace. Respite stays can be arranged where appropriate. If you are looking for a placement, please contact us and come and see the house for yourself.
