About Springfield House
Springfield House is a residential care home in Wigton supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We are a small house, and we mean that as a description of how it feels as well as how many people live here. Our aim is a settled, ordinary life. People choose their own routines, keep their own interests and relationships, and are supported to do the things that make a week feel like a week rather than a schedule. That might be a job or a college course, a regular walk, a football match, cooking, or simply having the time and space to be at home without anyone hurrying you. We work hard on communication, because most difficulties in this kind of support come down to someone not being understood. We learn how each person tells us what they want, and we make sure everyone working here can read it. When something is going wrong, we look first at what we might change about the environment or our own approach. Wigton and the wider Cumberland area give us plenty to get out for, and being part of the local community is part of the point. Respite stays are available for families needing a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Requires Improvement. We would rather set that out ourselves. We accept what was found, we are working through an improvement plan, and we will give families a straight answer on where we have got to.
