About Eskdale House

Eskdale House is a residential care home in Carlisle. We support older people who need help with daily life, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also support younger adults. We offer respite stays for short periods. Most of the people who live here come from Carlisle and the country around it, and that shared ground counts for more than you might expect. Familiar names, familiar places and familiar talk give people something to hold on to, and an unhurried conversation over a cup of tea is worth more than most organised activity. Residents decide how their own days run. When to get up and go to bed, what to eat, whether to sit with others or keep to their own room. Rooms are furnished with people's own things and nobody comes in without knocking. Where somebody has limited sight or hearing, we make sure the way we approach and speak to them takes account of it and that the surroundings are arranged so they can get about confidently. For residents living with dementia we keep things calm, familiar and consistent and work from each person's own history. Health needs are managed alongside local GPs and community nurses. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and visit us in Carlisle.
